About the Cover Photograph

These spires crown the Basilica de La Sagrada Familia, a sacred space in Barcelona designed by Antoni Gaudi and constructed through the collaborative efforts of many. The Basilica is still a work in progress, long after Gaudi's death in 1926. The scaffold surrounding the spires adds yet another layer of material, creating a serendipitous, collage-like effect, in color and design echoing the patterns and rhythms of Gaudi's piece.

Welcome to the late spring/early summer 2013 (in the Northern hemisphere) issue of Mixitini Matrix.  In this issue, we're hiking, eating, looking at art, inventing Velcro, grieving, digging up exquisite corpses, and, as we often do, contemplating what it means to be sharing this planet with other folks we love, and folks who break our hearts.  We've got poems to share, translations, collaborations, and stories to sift,  images upon which to gaze, some pleasant, some difficult. Jump in, have look, kick off your hiking boots or your sandals, and stay awhile.
