A wave of déjà vu as we cycle
the butterfly behind the zoo

it’s the contrast of the freight liners
eye-level and baby-blue sky

my mind traces our path
this old mountain bike stuck

in gear and you riding so new
a champagne Townie with basket

all of the things we yet to fill
for a picnic—cheese, a pear

cool Chardonnay
wrapped with a tapestry for a blanket…

and I could not love the afternoon
with you any less

as the garage door smoothly opens
like a shade for the evening.
